Over a succession of rhythm and bass-heavy vinyl releases for the Tectonic, SubSolo and Philpot labels Dave Huismans has asserted himself as one of the leading and most forward-thinking forces originating from the UK Dubstep sound. Under his 2562 moniker Huismans has delivered a consistent stream of minimalist 12" tracks encompassing brittle 2-Step Garage, lurching Techno and heavily bass-driven Dub with a fractured Brokenbeat aesthetic that sounds quite unlike any transmission being issued from that scene today.
This CD edition pulls together four tracks previously dispatched over the course of three individual 12"s released in the last year, plus six new productions primed to bass its listeners into submission. The real treats on this collection come in the form of the stunning 'Basin Dub' followed by the equally crushing 'Greyscale' - the standout track on the album, finally realizing a true stylistic blend of Hyperdub style Dubstep and Basic Channel's minimal Techno skank.
What "Aerial" does best as an album, is that it advances the massively revered traditions of the Dub / Minimal Techno / Dubstep rhythm sciences laid down in the lineage stretching from 70's progenitors King Tubby and Scientist to 90's Drum & Bass by Dillinja and Photek to 00's style future Dub by Rhythm & Sound up to the most recent advances in Dubstep by the likes of Kode 9 and Burial. Somehow spanning it all and then adding his own elements into the equation for progressive measure. Where's it all heading? Unknown, but this album gives one some pretty heady foresight.
