New Release Round-Up 10-09-15
THE DECEMBERISTS - Florasongs - Capitol
The Decemberists' new 5-song EP, Florasongs, is a collection of rare and unreleased tracks from the sessions that produced their acclaimed seventh studio album, What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, which came out in January.
ANN WILSON - The Ann Wilson Thing #1 - Rounder
"When compiling her short but satisfying new EP of cover songs, Ann Wilson had one rule: each track had to move the famously powerful lead vocalist of Heart. 'All the songs had to be songs where the words really turned Ann on,' Wilson tells Rolling Stone Country, laughing at her use of the third person. 'It's not just going to be a bunch of songs that turn a bunch of guitar players on. It's all for me to get out there and really be able to feel these songs.'" - Rolling Stone
VARIOUS ARTISTS - You Can't Kill Rock 'N' Roll - Capacitor
You Can't Kill Rock 'N' Roll is a benefit compilation on Capacitor Records to raise money for Eddie Spaghetti from the Supersuckers' fight against cancer. It features unreleased tracks from Mudhoney, ZEKE, Endino's Earthworm, John McBain, the first track that The Derelicts have recorded in 25 years and many more!
BOY & BEAR - Limit Of Love - Nettwerk
One of USA Today’s ‘Five Australian Bands You Need To Know,” Boy & Bear release their third studio album Limit Of Love, produced by Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams). The album, including all lead vocals, was recorded and mixed live resulting in an amazingly fresh and unique sound. Limit of Love follows acclaimed Harlequin Dream, a Gold album after a #1 debut in Australia.
CITY AND COLOUR - If I Should Go Before You - Dine Alone
World-renowned singer, songwriter and performer City And Colour (aka Dallas Green), returns with his fifth album, If I Should Go Before You. Unique to this project, the studio players on the album are made up of Green's trusted touring band: Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Dead Weather) on bass, Dante Schwebel (Spanish Gold, Dan Auerbach) on guitar, Doug MacGregor (Constantines) on drums and Matt Kelly on pedal steel guitar and keys.
THE ZOMBIES - Still Got That Hunger - The End
By the start of the new millennium, original members Colin Blunstone and Rod Argent were inspired to resurrect The Zombies, recruiting bassist Jim Rodford (formerly of Argent and The Kinks), Rodford’s son Steve on drums, and renowned session guitarist Tom Toomey. The Zombies returned to the studio in early 2015 to begin work on a new album – only taking breaks to debut new songs live during a triumphant return to SXSW, a live Yahoo! Screen broadcast from House of Blues New Orleans, and their first appearances at the UK’s Great Escape and Glastonbury Festivals. The new album, Still Got That Hunger, was produced by Chris Potter (The Verve Urban Hymns, Rolling Stones Steel Wheels).
PROTOMARTYR - The Agent Intellect - Hardly Art
Consider the urgency with which Protomartyr has approached everything —three albums in three years, each more extraordinary and rewarding than the last. This music is inherently, unassumingly high stakes. This October marks the release of The Agent Intellect, their third and finest work to date. Named after an ancient philosophical questioning of how the mind operates in relation to the self, it’s an elegant and often devastating display of all that makes Protomartyr so vital and singularly visceral an outfit.
JOSH RITTER - Sermon On The Rocks - Pytheas Recordings
Produced by Ritter and Tina Shoemaker (Queens of the Stoneage, Emmylou Harris), Sermon On The Rocks was recorded in two weeks at The Parlor Recording Studio in New Orleans. It's Josh Ritter's most confident, freewheeling record to date. Over the course of his acclaimed career, Ritter has released seven full-length albums, including his most recent, 2013's The Beast In Its Tracks, which debuted at #22 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on the Top Rock Albums chart.
