JR. JR. - Jr Jr - Warner Bros.
You could certainly call it a "turning point" or a "new chapter," but Detroit's JR. JR. have been working towards this moment since first forming in 2009. Their self-titled third full-length album, Jr Jr, represents a complete realization of the creative union between members Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein. "To me, this album is like the third part in a series," explains Epstein. "When we first started the band, we were trying to make pop music in the way we remembered and learned it. You can feel that on our first album, It's A Corporate World. The second, The Speed of Things, took everything a step further, but it was a little more polished and professional-sounding. Jr Jr has a little bit of both worlds. We've gotten better at recording, and we've grown together-and separately. It's the culmination of the series so far."
KURT VILE - B'lieve I'm Goin Down - Matador Records
Kurt Vile does his own myth making; a boy/man with an old soul voice in the age of digital everything becoming something else, which is why this focused, brilliantly clear and seemingly candid record is a breath of fresh air. Recorded and mixed in a number of locations, including Los Angeles and Joshua Tree, B'lieve I'm Goin Down is a handshake across the country, east to west coast, thru the dustbowl history (valley of ashes ) of woody honest strait forward talk guthrie, and a cali canyon dead still nite floating in a nearly waterless landscape. In Kurt's words, "I wanted to get back into the habit of writing a sad song on my couch, with nobody waiting on me. I really wanted it to sound like it's on my couch -- not in a lo-fi way, just more unguarded and vulnerable."
BALTHAZAR - Thin Walls - PIAS America
Headed by the songwriting /vocal mainstay of Maarten Devoldere and Jinte Deprez, Balthazar make a welcome return having traversed the world in support of their previous album, 2012's Rats. Thin Walls marks a departure for the quintet in so much as it was written whilst touring and the resultant ten tracks depict the band at their most instinctive. 'Then What', the first single - a tale of being so desperately in love that you realise your happiness depends on someone else - sets the tone, nestling amongst like minded stirring vignettes, a beguiling snapshot of life, on an album that takes Balthazar to bold new places.
BOB MARLEY - The Complete Island Recordings [12 LP Box Set] - Tuff Gong / UMGD
The Complete Island Recordings includes 12 LPs packaged in a rigid card box with lift top lid, and wrapped in silver paper that simulates the brushed metal finish of a zippo lighter. The box includes all nine Bob Marley & The Wailers studio albums recorded for Island Records, featuring their most celebrated releases, along with two live albums. The box set is also available as a Limited Collector's Edition Metal Box Set and you can find a full list of the remastered vinyl albums which are also available individually here.
EDITORS - In Dream - PIAS America
Since their 2005 breakthrough album, The Back Room, UK alternative rock icons Editors have become synonymous with dark, brooding experimental indie-rock songs that have often drawn comparisons to their American counterparts such as The National and Interpol and European heritage acts like Echo & The Bunnymen and U2. While these comparisons fairly reflect the gene pool that gave rise to these enigmatic Brits, it doesn’t accurately describe the originality and range in singer Tom Smith’s voice, or the dark, cinematic elegance in the band’s musical compositions.
EAGLES OF DEATH METAL - Zipper Down - T-Boy Records
EODM (Eagles Of Death Metal) aka Jesse Hughes ('Boots Electric') and Joshua Homme ('Baby Duck'), are back with their first new album in seven years, Zipper Down! Available worldwide on October 2, Zipper Down features 11 tracks, including the hot lead single, 'Complexity.' The album is produced by Homme.
ALLISON WEISS - New Love - Side One Dummy
New album from Los Angeles (by way of Flowery Branch, Georgia) singer/songwriter Allison Weiss, her first on SideOneDummy Records. Known for writing folk-inspired pop-punk songs and a D.I.Y. ethic, Weiss signed with No Sleep Records last year for the full length, Say What You Mean and the EP Remember When. Weiss will be hitting the road with Anthony Raneri of Bayside, What's Eating Gilbert and Laura Stevenson for a full U.S. tour.
QUEENSRYCHE - Condition Human - Century Media
Against the formidable obstacles of an ever-changing cultural landscape, the rise and fall of various musical trends, and the near collapse of the record industry itself, Queensryche secured a triumphant legacy as one of hard rock’s most respected and celebrated acts, selling 30 million albums around the world across a 30-plus year career.
MERCURY REV - The Light in You - Bella Union
The eighth full-length studio release for the alternative rock band Mercury Rev is its first studio album in seven years. Frontman Jonathan Donahue addressed the gap between albums in a press release: "It was one of those otherworldly life sequences, when everything you think is solid turns molten, but also, when something is worth saying, it can take a long time to say it, rather than just blurt it out."
JOE BONAMASSA - Live At Radio City Music Hall [CD/Blu-Ray Combo] - J&R Adventures
In January 2015, Joe Bonamassa took the iconic Great Stage at Radio City Music Hall for the first time for a sold-out, two-night run that allowed him to fulfill his lifelong dream of performing in one of the world's most legendary venues. On October 2, 2015, Bonamassa will share this experience with fans and music lovers around the world when he releases Joe Bonamassa - Live At Radio City Music Hall (J&R Adventures) as a CD/DVD set and CD/Blu-ray set. It will also air this fall on the Palladia HD TV network.
THE SHEEPDOGS - Future Nostalgia - Dine Alone Records
Trends come and go, styles fall in and out of fashion, but The Sheepdogs remain steadfast in their commitment to rock n’ roll excellence. Since their inception, the band has always sought to play the kind of music they themselves love: “Pure, simple, good-time music,” as singer/guitarist Ewan Currie puts it. It’s no surprise, then, that the band’s fifth LP, Future Nostalgia, is firmly rooted in the rock tradition that listeners have come to expect from the boys.
